IEC programs in 2019

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE CANADA (IEC)

International Experience Canada (IEC) provides young people with the opportunity to work in Canada. Depending on your country of citizenship/residence, you can choose from three IEC categories:

Working Holidays Visa (WHV) 

  • You get an open work permit that will allow you to work for more than one employer/any location in Canada. 
  • You do not need a job offer.
  • You must satisfy your country-specific age and other restrictions. 

Young Professionals (YP)

  • You get an employer-specific work permit.
  • You need to have a job offer from a Canadian employer in NOC 0, A or B.
  • You must satisfy you country-specific age and other restrictions. 

International CO-OP (Internship)

  • You get an employer-specific work permit.
  • You need to have a job offer for a work placement/internship in Canada and you need to do this work placement or internship to complete your studies.
  • You must be a student registered at a post-secondary institution.
  • You must satisfy you country-specific age and other restrictions. 

Boost your express entry score

As of November 19, 2016, Young Professionals work permit holders and International Co-op work permit holders with a valid job offer in a NOC 00 are awarded additional 200 points and candidates with a valid job offer in a NOC 0, A or B occupations are awarded additional 50 points, provided they satisfy the below-mentioned requirements:

  1. Have a valid job offer from the employer on your work permit for at least 1 year;
  2. Have been working full-time for the employer on your work permit for at least 1 year (or part-time equivalent); 
  3. Have a valid employer-specific work permit that is exempt from an LMIA under an international agreement, a federal-provincial agreement or the Canadian interests category.

Spousal open work permit

Your Spouse or Common-Law partner may themselves be eligible for an open work permit if you satisfy the following requirements:

  • your work permit is valid for at least six months;
  • you are employed in an occupation that falls within NOC skill levels 0, A or B;
  • you are either married or in a common-law relationship (i. e. have been living together for at least 12 consecutive months).

Employer/occupation change or error correction

As mentioned above, Young Professionals work permit and International Co-Op work permit are employer specific and you are, therefore, not allowed to work for any other employer. Under certain conditions, it is possible to have your employer/occupation changed. In case your work permit was issued for less than 1 year or under incorrect occupation we can fix it too.
